Throughout the week, participants will engage in expert-led deep dives, interactive experiences, and site-focused events that spotlight the people, places, and practices contributing to a built environment that serves people, planet, and economy.
Designed for architects, designers, builders, engineers, owners, operators, and sustainability professionals, this themed week offers insight, peer connection, real examples, and emerging practices that promote healthier and more resilient spaces.

Monday, September 14
9:00 AM – Virtual
An accessible primer on the essential concepts that shape human, environmental, and economic wellbeing in today’s building landscape. The session will also explore popular building and community rating systems used to standardize strategy and measure success in designing with the wellbeing of building occupants, surrounding communities, and the economy in mind.
5:00 PM – In-Person
Over a thoughtfully curated dinner, join residents and leaders of four postindustrial Pennsylvania communities in exploring their journeys to resilience, how the (green) built environment helps move the needle on community-led transformation, and an interactive exercise demonstrating the challenges and successful strategies that come with each phase of community resilience.
Tuesday, September 15

Join Green Building Alliance and Pittsburgh Water for a look at new solutions being implemented across Pittsburgh to reduce flooding, decrease pollution, and modernize local stormwater infrastructure. Enjoy lunch and a walking tour exploring stormwater updates at Wightman Park.
Wednesday, September 16

These “lightning” fast and thought-provoking presentations spotlight topics and exemplary projects that leverage innovation and demonstrate leadership in the design, construction, and ongoing operation of resilient and healthy spaces. Attendees will also enjoy coffee, breakfast, Q&A session with the speakers, and opportunities for networking.

In our region’s era of planning for future growth, how are major players engaging with each other to ensure that their plans are working congruently and encompassing the priorities of residents, businesses, developers, and other stakeholders across Greater Pittsburgh?
Engage with the teams working on the Allegheny County Comprehensive Plan, Climate Action Plan, and Pgh2050 Comprehensive Plan and discover how principles from previous plans and similar initiatives such as LEED for Cities, the Pittsburgh Resiliency Plan, and the Pittsburgh 2030 District are being incorporated.
Thursday, September 17

As significant users of resources and major destinations for residents and tourists alike, the design and operational practices of Pittsburgh’s sports stadiums have an immeasurable impact and influence on the communities they serve. The Pittsburgh Pirates Sustainability Team will provide insight into their operations, contributing to energy efficiency, waste reduction, environmental education, and community impact. Afterward, attendees will embark on a sustainability tour of PNC Park and are invited to stay and enjoy the 12:35 Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers game from the World Series Suite.
Friday, September 18

Back to School: Intro to IAQ and Energy Planning for Schools Workshop
Discover why Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Energy Efficiency are equally important for K-12 schools and how schools can prioritize both issues simultaneously to protect the health of students and staff. During this workshop, participants will hear examples and best practices that have been implemented by other schools, learn about their successes and challenges, and discover resources available from the Center for Green Schools and GBA.
