Accelerating to Zero: Green Building Tour at the Arnold Palmer Learning Center
Join Green Building Alliance, R3A Architecture, The First Tee-Pittsburgh, and other project team members for a presentation and tour of the Arnold Palmer Learning Center (APLC), which is targeting LEED v4 Silver certification.
Completed in 2021, the 15,000 square foot Learning Center was designed to support and provide space for retail, socializing, and education & training, including programs that teach life skills and character through the game of golf.
The golf clubhouse, pro-shop, kitchen, classrooms and meeting spaces prioritize efficiency and sustainability through design that emphasizes energy performance, water conservation, responsible material selection, and indoor environmental quality.
The roof design takes full advantage of the power of the sun to heat the interior of the facility during the colder months. Landscaping incorporates a rain garden runoff system to collect stormwater and potential pollutants.
Accessibility and inclusivity were also prioritized in the project, enabling the facility to better support youth development and ensure the facility would continue to serve community needs.
Participants will:
1) Receive an overview of the APLC project scope and design process
2) Gain insight into the building’s energy efficient and sustainable design, targeting LEED Silver certification
3) Learn about the various roles involved in the APLC project
4) Accelerating to Zero: Discuss how the project aligns with 2030 District and Resilient Community energy, water, and decarbonization goals
This event is eligible for 1.5 AIA or self-reported GBCI credits
Key project team members include:
The First Tee-Pittsburgh (owner), R3A Architecture (architect), Massaro Construction (general contractor), D’Appolonia Engineering (civil), CJL Engineering (MEP), Atlantic Engineering Services (structural), Moore Design Associates (landscape architect), and H.F. Lenz Company (commissioning)
