Government & Municipal Leaders

Municipal leaders have a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to shape healthier, more resilient, and economically vibrant communities. Green building and sustainable development support these goals by reducing energy costs, improving public health, enhancing property values, and creating high-quality jobs in construction, energy, and sustainable manufacturing.

Ultimately, sustainable development isn’t just an environmental imperative, it’s a powerful tool for economic development, public well-being, and long-term municipal success.

As a nonprofit working across Pennsylvania, with strong partners in West Virginia and beyond, we share your commitment to growing a thriving local economy with attractive schools, family sustaining jobs, a trained workforce, and infrastructure that is resilient to extreme weather and emergency events.

For more than three decades, Green Building Alliance has engaged with public, private, and nonprofit stakeholders, including more than 160 businesses, schools, multifamily, government, university, community anchor institutions, and other property partners to impact the way buildings and communities are planned, designed, constructed, operated, and renovated.

Our programs directly support partners to collectively reduce their energy and water use and contribute to investment in construction. In Pittsburgh alone, GBA members have saved $525M on utility costs (2012-2024), and invested over $5.4B to improve their buildings (2012-2024) – contributing to economic and community development with tangible impacts on people, businesses, and communities.

Green Building Alliance staff are available to provide you with expert support, data, and insight on issues related to the built environment, healthy schools, workforce development and training, energy and water efficiency, municipal and community planning, and sustainable product manufacturing.
