Built on a former B&O Railway Terminal site, PNC Firstside Center was the first LEED-certified bank in the United States. The building was constructed with light shaded pavement and green landscaping to reduce the heat island effect of standard urban architecture. This was PNC’s first exploration into green building and LEED certification, and it launched many years of world-wide green building leadership by the institution.

• Lighting systems were designed to minimize skyglow and off-site illumination, which can be harmful to people and animals  
• Over half of the employees use public transport as their main means of commuting  
• Water-efficient irrigation fixtures and low-flow toilets are used to minimize water usage  
• Fun Fact: The former Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad that ran through the site was one of the oldest railroads in the nation, accommodating industrial transport beginning in the late 19th century
