Impact

Every decision we make within the built environment impacts quality of life and the resiliency of the spaces we create, the economies we grow, the communities we nurture, and the jobs we support.

The way we design and build our spaces matters.

Creating thriving local economies and communities – where people want to live, raise families, grow businesses, and invest time and money – requires cities, business districts, and neighborhoods that are home to beautiful, healthy, well-constructed, and affordable schools, office buildings, hospitals, universities, municipal buildings, cultural institutions, and more.

People spend over 90% of their time indoors and the way we design our spaces impacts human health, productivity, and wellbeing.

Our buildings, which account for approximately 37% of global CO2 emissions and 40% of all U.S. primary energy use, must also be future ready. Green Building Alliance champions best practices that will enable us to meet the challenges of rising energy and operational costs, the specter of energy brownouts amidst increasing demand, escalating weather events, and resource scarcity, while mitigating environmental impacts.
